Supporting Caregivers in the Workplace

Course Objectives: What will people learn, why will they want to take the class?

LaDawn Whiteside, AARP Montana Caregiver Consultant, will provide a realistic, comprehensive discussion about caregiving, employees who are caregivers & strategies for retaining productive employees who are caregivers.  The curriculum discussion will include AARP resources as well as experiences the audience and presenter have experienced.  Resource tools for employees and employers to use.

Using the AARP Supporting Caregivers in the Workplace: A Practical Guide for Employers, The Caregiving Employee Resource Group (ERG) Toolkit and the Prepare to Care Planning Guide for Families, attendees will:

  1. Identify themselves and others as employees & caregivers.
  2. Learn/hear statistics about caregivers in America.
  3. Understand the financial implications of being a caregiver.
  4. Examine the career impact on caregivers in the workplace.
  5. Understanding of the significances/consequences of planning ahead for caregiving.
  6. Consider and analyze support systems, resources in their family, workplace and community while building a team of caregivers to surround a loved one with appropriate love and care.
  7. Understand the consequences of employees who are caregivers not taking care of themselves.

About our Speaker:

    LaDawn Whiteside, AARP Montana Caregiving Consultant

    LaDawn’s professional career began as an Assistant Activity Director in a nursing home in 1983.   Since then, LaDawn has worked in healthcare regulation, the home and community-based waiver program, and as the Abuse in Late Life Advocate with a domestic violence program.  Additionally, she is a Certified Mediator with Elder designation, President elect of the Montana Mediation Association, an Eldercaring Coordinator, guardian, and now AARP Montana Caregiving Consultant.  Her passion throughout life has been seniors.  LaDawn is a mother of twin daughters with 4 grandchildren all living in Helena.  She loves people, crafting and providing service to others.
