Legislative Update:

A review of state and federal legislative, regulatory and judicial actions affecting HR in Montana.   Westaff will cover the current status of legislative topics and how the recent 2020 election has affected and will affect our human resource and employer world.  Please join us to hear about what may happen in the future, general state and federal updates that affect you!

Speaker: WESTAFF former owner

Jim Nys is the previous President/CEO of Westaff of Helena and a current part-time Senior HR Consultant.  Nys has worked in Human Resource Management since 1974 and holds a Master's degree from the University of Montana in Public Administration, with an emphasis in Personnel Management.  He has been certified as a Professional in Human Resource Management (PHR) by the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) since 1995 and obtained his Senior Professional in Human Resource Management (SPHR) in 2011.  He also is certified as a staffing professional by the American Staffing association and held the Senior Professional in Human Resources designation until 2018.

Nys worked as an employment interviewer for the Montana Job Service for a period of six years, four years as the State of Montana's Equal Employment Opportunity Coordinator and nearly five years as the Personnel Services Manager for the Montana Department of Administration.  In all of these positions, Nys recruited, screened and hired hundreds of individuals in professional, skilled and unskilled positions for positions in Montana state government.  With more than 37 years of experience, Nys has a level of knowledge about state government operations that, we believe, makes Westaff far more capable in matching temporary employees to state positions than any competing vendor.

Nys' qualifications in the Human Resources profession are demonstrated by the fact that he is the author of several widely distributed employer's handbooks on subjects ranging from avoiding wrongful discharge to lawful hiring in Montana.  His hiring handbook has been used as a reference in the University of Montana Masters in Business Administration program.  He has also worked as an adjunct professor of Human Resource Management for the Montana University System's Master’s in Public Administration program, for the Troy State University Masters in Human Resource Management Program in Helena and Great Falls, and in the Embry-Riddle University Masters in Business Administration program located in Helena.

Nys continues to be employed as a resource on a part-time basis to support Westaff of Helena with his expertise, mentoring and guidance.  Nys still is able to enjoy his passion for all things human resources and passion for government while being semi-retired.
