ONLINE Verbal De-Escalation
Session Description:
Understanding that communication, both verbal and non-verbal, have power. Verbal De-escalation will train those to calm difficult people who may be under severe emotional or other influences, redirect the behavior of aggressive people, diffuse potentially hazardous situations, perform professionally under all conditions, and achieve the desired outcome of the situation.
Speaker: Noal Petty, Detective Corporal - Helena Police Department
Noal Petty is a Detective Corporal with the Helena Police Department. He has been with the Helena Police Department since April 2007. Noal is currently assigned to the Montana Analysis and Technical Information Center (MATIC) as the Fusion Liaison Officer Coordinator.
Noal graduated from Montana State University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology. In 2013, Noal graduated from Capella University with a Master of Science degree in Public Safety Leadership. Noal oversees the Junior Police Leadership Academy (JPLA) as well as the Helena College Reserve Officer Program. Noal is an active instructor in Verbal Judo and other Active Shooter training. He has been a School Resource Officer and worked on HPD’s motorcycle unit. Noal works part time as an adjunct professor at Carroll College and Helena College teaching Sociology and Criminal Justice Courses.
